Want to make push-ups more challenging and get more out of each reps?

It can be done with just your bodyweight, and a pair of gymnastic rings.


What are RTO push-ups?

RTO push-ups also called Ring turn out pushups is essentially a push-up combined with a ring turn out at the end.

The RTO front support (shown on right) is a very common position used in gymnastics to move into straight arm holds like the maltese or iron cross.


RTO push-ups Benefits

Performing Rto pushups will strengthen your scapula, rotator cuff, biceps, lats, and pec minor to a much higher degree than regular push-ups.

It also strengthens the ligaments in your arms so that when you start to train straight arm exercises like the back lever, planche, L-sit you body will be prepared.

The RTO will also better your ability to perform scapula depression and abduction. Furthermore, performing the abduction will mean your push-ups will have a larger range of motion.

 


How do I do RTO push-ups?

They're very simple to do. Set-up like you're about to perform a regular push-up on the rings.

Then perform the push-up and on the way up as your arms are straightening, turn your arms so that the inside of your elbow will be facing forward at a 45degree angle as shown in the picture on the right
