Pros and Cons

The Adaptabell extensions are great when you need to add several plates to a dumbbell, and the no-overhang design is perfect for resting the dumbbell on your thigh in preparation for bench pressing. But there are a couple of challenges. One is that it is sometimes hard to get the center holes of all the plates lined up, to allow the extension to fall into the threaded center part of the handle. Because the plates are usually not all the same diameter, lining up the edges of the plates doesn't solve the problem. Often I have to insert the adapter into each plate as I stack them to make sure the holes are all centered. Smooth metal plates are the most difficult because they can easily side on each other. I have some old rusted plates, and they work better. The second issue is that after moving the loaded dumbbell around a few times the extensions become tightened into the handle and I have to use a large pipe wrench to loosen it. (A hexagonal indentation in the center of the end of the adapter to allow the user to use a large Allen wrench would be good modification.) However, the overall advantages of the no-overhang and the extra length for extra plates makes it worthwhile to use these items.

Excellent product!

I’ve been using the AdaptaBell for a few weeks now. It is an excellent product. They handle more than sufficient weight, and are easy to use. I purchased the Max. The only thing I would potentially complain about is; the handles are a little thick & and could use a little more aggressive knurling. All in all, I highly recommend this product for home gym use.

Way better than I imagined

These dumbbell handles have exceeded my expectation. I bought these to see if I’d like them before I bought the more expensive adjustable dumbbells. I already had enough weight plates, so I just needed the handles. For the regular size I was able to make 70# each (25’s and 10’s). I bought the extenders to add height. Not only could I add weight but they are metal and appear more durable. I was able to make #80’s each with room to add. They never came loose and seem sturdy.

I bought these to only do chest exercises. I have had no issues with range of motion while doing flat or incline. I tried tricep over head extension and the weight plates were too big and awkward. Needless to say I’m very satisfied and won’t be buying adjustable dumbbells.

Thes are the best dumbbells I have tried for home gym there on the thicker side from regular dumbbells but they do have a premium feel from competitors
