Open-Ended Design

A traditional Swiss bar can impede range of motion.

The open-ended design of the Sapporo Bar solves that.

It allows a deeper stretch on the bench press and row.

It allows a full lock out on the bicep curl.

Presses and deadlifts can be done more naturally.

Lastly, it allows you to perform shrugs.

An exercise not possible on a traditional Swiss bar.

Not recommended

I purchased the bar for clients who can’t press a straight bar overhead. Unfortunately, the bar is not stable. It wiggles during the movement and feels unstable.

Reaching customer service was difficult. The phone number never works and they take days to respond by email.

Shipping was a disaster. The company shipped quickly, but used a different carrier than what they said in the checkout. It led to issues, and it was difficult to resolve them because it was hard to reach customer service.

Great bar and Hammer Curls

Bar is solid and looks nice. The spacing is perfect for hammer curls where you can get your hands parellel with your hips for most people. The round ends add some extra protection which is nice as well. Overall very happy with the bars design and quality.

A Game Changer!

For years, I've been unable to do a proper deadlift or bent over row without hitting my knees at some point. It prevented me of giving a full drive to my lifts because I knew it was about to hurt.
So I ordered the Sapporo open swiss bar in the hope that it will solve this problem. Well, it actually did! Thanks to this bar, I now enjoy deadlifts and rows and can really focus on power and good form. To be fair, it takes a few sets to get the gist of the bar, that is to find the right spot where it won't be wobbly, but when you get it, it's truly awesome.
I also use it for hammer curls.

Open Swiss Bar Review

Great piece of equipment. Due to mobility issues with an injured wrist a straight barbell doesn't work for bench pressing anymore. I picked up a cheap ladder bar off an online retailer just to see if I could bench press again using a neutral grip. I used it for a while, but it was cluncky and didn't fit in my rack well. I found this bar and liked the open concept. It works well, and is a great piece of equipment, and fits well into my rack. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to perform neutral grip exercises.
